What's it going to be then, eh?

"Welcome to the party, pal!"
- John McClane

On this blog, I'll be posting my random thoughts and reviews, mostly of movies, but sometimes the errant TV show, song, band, book, or play may find its way into my orbit.

I'm launching Cinema City with critical looks at my own favorite movies. I've spent some time going through all the movies I've seen, trying to determine my favorites. Sure, there are plenty of movies I've watched more than once, but only a select few truly give me a new experience each time I watch.

To me, the best movies are the ones from which I get something new no matter how many times I see them. It could be an actor's glance, a line of dialogue, or even a director's choice of shot that either I never noticed before, or I suddenly see in a new light.

My favorite movies have earned their place on my list because I can watch them over and over and never get bored or tired. I may know whole sections of dialogue like the back of my hand, or I may be able to anticipate the exact sequence of shots. But the overall experience is always fresh and new.

After I get through what I consider my ten all-time favorite films (interspersed with my take on new releases I've seen or old movies I've just seen for the first time), I'll occasionally take a look at the ones that didn't quite make the cut. Not that they're bad; in most cases, they could easily replace ones that did make the list. But that would only happen if I suddenly found I couldn't stand to sit through any one of my favorites one more time. So far, that hasn't happened. And I don't expect it to. For me, my favorites stand the test of time...actually, multiple times.

So, in the immortal words of the great Marty DiBergi, enough of my yakkin'. Whaddaya say? Let's boogie!
